Gujarat Bird Watching Guide
A complete field guide to 15 major birding destinations — from flamingo colonies and harrier roosts to lion forests and arid grasslands.
Gujarat is arguably India's most rewarding birding state. Its extraordinary ecological range — salt deserts, grasslands, coastal wetlands, dry deciduous forests, and mangroves — makes it home to over 600 recorded bird species. It sits on the Central Asian Flyway, pulling in migrants from Siberia, Central Asia, and the Himalayas every winter.
Locations in this guide
The largest wetland bird sanctuary in Gujarat and one of the largest in India. The shallow lake, 360 islets, muddy lagoons, and reed beds create ideal habitat. Over 250 species recorded; a skilled birder can log 100+ species in a single day.
